Denis Villeneuve plans to direct a new film titled Dune: Messiah. This will be the next installment in the successful Dune franchise, which has already grossed over a billion dollars. However, no cast members have been confirmed to return for this film yet.
Javier Bardem, who played Stilgar in Dune: Part One and Part Two, spoke to Variety about his potential participation in Dune: Messiah. He expressed uncertainty about his role in the upcoming film but hopes to return. He joked that he would be "very angry" if he is not part of it.
Bardem’s son was excited to see his father in the movie but expressed a desire for Bardem to have a sword-fighting scene. Bardem humorously requested that if Dune: Messiah happens, he wants to include some sword fighting for his child’s enjoyment.
Additionally, Villeneuve confirmed he is currently writing the script for Dune: Messiah. He stated he does not intend to adapt the entire Dune series but would focus solely on this next book. While he has not confirmed the cast, he hinted that all surviving characters could return, including Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Zendaya (Chani), and Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan).
In another note, Bardem is involved in various projects outside the Dune series. He is currently working on an animated film titled Spellbound, a series about the Menendez brothers, and an upcoming adaptation of Cape Fear.
Overall, anticipation for Dune: Messiah is building, with fans looking forward to what Villeneuve will create next.
