4Aces Acquire Thomas Pieters in First LIV Golf Offseason move
Dustin Johnson’s team adds young talent, signaling a potential shift in strategy for the 2025 season.
The LIV Golf offseason is officially underway, and the first domino has fallen. The Dustin Johnson-captained 4Aces have acquired belgian golfer Thomas Pieters from the RangeGoats, a move that suggests a new direction for the team.
At 32, Pieters brings a youthful energy to the 4Aces, who currently boast a roster that includes veterans like 48-year-old Pat Perez, whose contract expires on January 1st. Pieters becomes the team’s fifth player, adding depth and firepower to a squad that finished 10th in the regular season but tied for second in the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship.
“He’s a solid player with multiple wins in his career,” said Chris Rosaasen, the 4Aces general manager. “His ryder Cup record shows he excels in team golf. He’s going to be a grate fit for the 4Aces brand both on and off the course.”
The RangeGoats, meanwhile, will not receive a player in return for Pieters. General manager Randall Wells explained the rationale behind the trade, citing the need for roster flexibility and financial maneuvering.
“the decision to trade Thomas Pieters was not easy. He has been a valuable member of RangeGoats GC since we launched two years ago,” wells said. “But the nature of LIV and team golf requires teams to make tough decisions. like other team sports, we have to take into account a host of factors, including player contracts and the fact we have a limited number of roster spots. In this case,we felt the roster flexibility and the possibilities it opens up was best for the RangeGoats.”
Pieters, who finished 30th in the 2024 LIV Golf individual standings, will be under contract with the 4Aces thru 2025.He joins a roster that includes Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III, who is also signed through 2025.
The acquisition of Pieters, a six-time winner on the DP World Tour and the leading scorer for Europe in the 2016 Ryder Cup, was driven in part by Johnson’s belief in his potential.
“Happy to have Thomas on the team. He’s a great addition, great player and makes the team stronger. Really excited for next season,” Johnson said.
The 4Aces, who won the inaugural LIV Golf team title in 2022, are clearly looking to build on their recent success and contend for another championship in 2025. The acquisition of Pieters is a significant step in that direction.
