Local branches of the CDA and VVD parties are opposing the Dutch cabinet’s nitrogen reduction plans, with some members stating they hold a completely different view than the national government.

CDA and VVD Local Branches Oppose Cabinet Nitrogen Policy

Local party members from the CDA (Christian Democratic Appeal) and VVD (People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy) are distancing themselves from the national government’s strategy to curb nitrogen emissions. According to De Telegraaf, these local divisions have led to members claiming, Wij staan er compleet anders in (We see it completely differently), regarding the cabinet’s approach.

Farmer Organizations Launch New Protests

These actions follow reports from NRC that tractor groups have been using app groups to coordinate new demonstrations.

AD.nl reports that tractors have already appeared along highways. While these summer actions are occurring, the publication notes that the nature of these protests appears different than the large-scale demonstrations seen in 2022.

Political Failure and Societal Impact

The Nederlands Dagblad reports that both farmers and society at large are suffering due to what it describes as deliberate political failure in the handling of the nitrogen crisis.
