Dutch Parliament Rejects China’s Distortion of UN Resolution
The Dutch Parliament recently passed a resolution rejecting China’s distortion of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and asked the Dutch government to seek support for this position within the EU.
China’s embassy in the Netherlands responded by calling on the Dutch side to adhere to the “one-China principle” and take practical steps to safeguard Sino-Dutch relations.
Background of the Resolution
In recent years, Beijing has continued to adhere to UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 to narrow Taiwan’s space for international participation. China’s embassy has criticized Taiwan-related proposals, stating that “Taiwan has no basis, reason or right to participate in the UN and other international organizations that only sovereign states can participate.”
Chinese Embassy’s Response
A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in the Netherlands urged the Dutch side to sincerely adhere to the one-China policy, not to send any wrong signals to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces, and to take practical measures to safeguard the overall development of China-Netherlands relations.
Dutch Parliament’s Resolution
On the 12th local time, the Dutch Parliament passed a resolution with Taiwan by a vote of 147-3. The content rejects China’s distortion of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and asks the Dutch government to seek support for this position within the European Union.
