Duval County Arrests: $1.14 Million Insurance Fraud Scheme Uncovered

November 16, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Health

Duval County Insurance Fraud Arrests

The Chief Financial Officer of Duval County announced the arrests of two women from Jacksonville. They submitted at least 42 fraudulent insurance claims, collecting a total of $1.14 million.

The women worked for Aetna, a healthcare company. They filed false insurance claims and provided fake documentation to back their claims. This fraud occurred between 2019 and 2023. One woman gained over $408,000, while the other received more than $736,000.

Both women learned to process claims for hospitals and accidents. They uploaded fake medical invoices and explanations for procedures that never happened.

CFO Jimmy Patronis commented on the severity of the fraud, praising the Insurance Fraud detectives for their work. He emphasized that insurance fraud raises costs for Florida residents. Patronis urged anyone suspicious of fraud to report it at FraudFreeFlorida.com.

The two individuals were charged with one count of false insurance claims and one count of scheme to defraud. If convicted, they each face up to 30 years in prison.
