Dwarka Expressway: Noida to Delhi Airport in 20 Minutes
Delhi-NCR Gears Up for Smoother Commutes as Modi Inaugurates Key Road Projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate vital infrastructure projects in Delhi-NCR on Sunday, promising to substantially ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the region. The spotlight is on the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), both designed to decongest key arterial routes and provide faster access to neighboring states.
Easing Congestion with UER-II
The urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), a 75.71 km stretch developed at a cost of ₹6,445 crore,is poised to become a game-changer for commuters. By connecting Mahipalpur near IGI Airport with Alipur in North Delhi and linking it to NH-44, UER-II offers an alternative route that bypasses the heavily congested Dhaula Kuan and Delhi’s ring roads. This translates to quicker journeys for residents of Gurugram, West Delhi, and South Delhi heading towards Chandigarh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.Originally estimated at ₹3,300 crore, the UER-II project aims to alleviate pressure on NH-48,NH-44,Ring Roads, and the Barapullah elevated corridor. The Prime Minister will inaugurate four of the five packages of UER-II during a ceremony in Rohini.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate… four packages of Urban Extension Road-II connecting Mahipalpur near IGI airport with Alipur in North Delhi, linking it with NH-44… These two roads will significantly reduce congestion in and around Delhi and NCR,” stated a senior NHAI official.
Dwarka Expressway: Enhancing Connectivity to Gurugram and Beyond
Alongside UER-II, the Dwarka Expressway is another crucial project set to transform the commuting experience. Packages 3 and 4, spanning 10.1 km in Delhi, feature a 5.1 km tunnel connecting the expressway to IGI Airport, dramatically improving access to Gurugram. The Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, covering 29 km between Mahipalpur and Kherki Daula on NH-48 (Packages 1 and 2), was inaugurated earlier in March 2024.
Future Connectivity: A Network of Expressways
The benefits of these projects extend beyond immediate congestion relief. plans are in motion to connect UER-II to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, originating near Akshardham temple. This will create faster routes for traffic from Haryana and Rajasthan bound for Dehradun. Furthermore, a 65 km highway from Tronica City to the under-construction FNG Expressway has been approved, promising to link five major expressways in the NCR: Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Meerut, noida-Greater Noida, DND-Faridabad, and Yamuna Expressways. This interconnected network will streamline travel across the region, fostering economic growth and improving quality of life.
Lasting Construction: A Step Towards a Greener Future
An impressive aspect of the UER-II project is its commitment to sustainable construction practices. Approximately 10 lakh metric tons of inert material, recovered through biomining of legacy landfill waste in Delhi, has been utilized in the construction of UER-II. This innovative approach not onyl reduces reliance on virgin materials but also contributes to cleaning up Delhi’s landfills, showcasing a commitment to environmental responsibility.
Inauguration Preparations and Project Inspection
Ahead of the inauguration, the Dwarka Expressway tunnel has undergone thorough cleaning and refurbishment. Prime Minister Modi is expected to inspect both the Dwarka Expressway and UER-II, commencing with the expressway and then proceeding via UER-II towards Rohini. This inspection underscores the importance of these projects and their potential to reshape the transportation landscape of Delhi-NCR.
The inauguration of these key road projects marks a critically important step forward in addressing traffic woes and enhancing connectivity in delhi-NCR. with improved infrastructure and a focus on sustainable practices, the region is poised for a future of smoother commutes and enhanced economic opportunities.
