Dylan Hotel and Residents Oppose 100-Bedroom Raglan Townhouse Hotel Plan in Dublin
Opposition to New Hotel Plans in Dublin
The Dylan Hotel and the Pembroke Rd Association oppose plans for a new 100-bedroom hotel, the Raglan Townhouse, on Baggot Street Upper in Dublin. Raglan Townhouse Hotel Ltd submitted a planning application for this hotel at Nos 46, 48, and 52-54 Baggot Street Upper and at Eastmoreland Lane.
The proposed hotel will also include a café and bar on the ground floor. Both the Dylan Hotel and the Pembroke Rd Association have raised concerns in submissions to Dublin City Council.
Planning consultant Thomas Freeman, representing the Dylan Hotel’s owner, Lyndonmont Ltd, expressed worries about the hotel’s height and scale. He stated that the new building could overshadow the Dylan Hotel, affecting sunlight and quality of the hotel rooms.
Freeman warned that the construction of the Raglan Townhouse hotel could cause significant environmental impacts. He stated this project would take millions of euros and may harm the local area for years.
Susan McCarrick, representing the Pembroke Road Association, argued that there is no need for another 100-bed hotel on Upper Baggot Street. She claimed the hotel would harm the visual appeal and residential quality of the area, setting a negative example for future developments.
Marc Rutner, a Pembroke Rd resident, echoed these concerns. He noted that adding another hotel to an already saturated market would hinder essential residential development and overload local infrastructure. He described the proposed hotel as a visual blight on the neighborhood.
A decision regarding the planning application is expected next month.
