The Dylan Hotel Opposes New Raglan Townhouse Hotel Plans in Dublin

The Dylan Hotel and the Pembroke Road Association are opposing new plans for a 100-bedroom hotel on Baggot Street Upper, Dublin. The developer, Raglan Townhouse Hotel Ltd, seeks permission for this hotel at several addresses on Baggot Street Upper and Eastmoreland Lane.

In addition to the hotel, the proposal includes a café and bar on the ground floor. However, concerns have been raised regarding the design, height, and scale of the planned hotel. Thomas Freeman, a planning consultant representing the Dylan Hotel, argues that the project may cause overshadowing and reduce sunlight for the hotel.

He emphasized that the Dylan Hotel’s operators worry about the impact on their hotel rooms and may take legal action to protect their rights regarding the new development. The operators are also concerned about the extensive construction project, which could significantly alter the local environment for many years.

Susan McCarrick, representing the Pembroke Road Association, stated that there is no need for another 100-bed hotel on Upper Baggot Street. She believes the project would harm the area’s visual and residential appeal and create an unwanted precedent.

Resident Marc Rutner added that a new hotel would complicate efforts to develop more housing in the area and would strain local infrastructure, affecting residential character.

A decision on the planning application is expected next month.
