Dylan raiola Commits to Nebraska Football Amid transfer Temptation
Dylan Raiola, Nebraska’s quarterback, is staying put. Despite a challenging freshman season and numerous offers via the transfer portal,Raiola has reaffirmed his commitment to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Coach Matt Rhule highlighted Raiola’s dedication, noting the young quarterback could have sought an easier path elsewhere.
Rhule, speaking on The Jim Rome Show, emphasized that Raiola chose to remain with the Huskers and battle for success. The team is coming off a 7-6 season, marking their first bowl appearance since 2016. This is viewed as a meaningful step in Rhule’s rebuilding efforts and Raiola’s progress as a player.
Raiola started strong, winning five of his first six games and throwing nine touchdowns. However, he experienced a mid-season slump before finishing strong with two wins in his final three starts, including a Pinstripe Bowl victory. His completion rate reached 72% during that final stretch.
Rhule believes Raiola is learning to manage the intense pressure that comes with leading a program aiming to restore it’s former glory. The Nebraska football program faces high expectations.
“He’s got so many eyes on him,” Rhule said. “He has the weight and pressure of an entire fanbase — of an entire state — of a blue blood like Nebraska. First year, you come in, to me, if you’re a big-time recruit, it’s about learning how to handle the pressure. Learning how to handle the frustrating moments.”
FanDuel sportsbook projects Nebraska’s regular-season win total at 7.5 for 2025. The Huskers have exceeded seven wins only once in the last decade. However, Rhule’s offensive enhancements, including retaining Dana Holgorsen as coordinator and securing a No.13-ranked transfer portal class, fuel optimism.
While Raiola’s talent is evident, continued growth and adaptation are crucial. Remaining at Nebraska provides him the opportunity to refine his skills and mature as a leader for the Nebraska football team.
“Mentally from a football viewpoint,it comes really easy to him,” rhule said. “But he’s worked so hard at it.He knows everything inside and out. His body looks great. Tremendous shape. Where I see him growing is in the phases of leadership and the phases of mental toughness, handling adversity. and I think he’s going to have a great year.”
What’s next
Looking ahead, Raiola’s focus will be on honing his leadership abilities and mental fortitude. With a strengthened offense and a year of experiance under his belt, he aims to lead Nebraska to a successful 2025 season.
