Dyson has introduced the PencilVac Fluffycones, a cordless stick vacuum designed for maximum maneuverability in compact living spaces. Priced at $600, the device weighs under four pounds and features a slender 40mm-diameter handle that allows for single-handed operation. Its most distinctive trait is the integration of Dyson’s motor technology into a form factor resembling a broom or mop rather than a traditional vacuum cleaner.

The PencilVac Fluffycones uses a dual-roller system similar to that found in Dyson’s OmniGlide model, enabling smooth gliding across hard floors. Four Fluffycone heads are engineered to minimize hair tangles by bundling debris at the tips of each cone, which can then be easily cleared from the center of the vacuum. The design also allows the unit to reach edges and tight spaces, such as under low-profile furniture or between table legs.

Despite its compact size, the PencilVac Fluffycones delivers surprisingly strong suction for a device of its class. However, it is not intended to match the power of Dyson’s larger stick vacuums like the V15 Detect. During testing, the unit occasionally lost roller engagement when used on carpets or rugs at higher suction levels, confirming its role as a dedicated hard floor cleaner. Upon assembly and charging, it displays a QR code for pairing with the MyDyson app. After a brief firmware update, the vacuum is ready for use. The app primarily offers maintenance reminders, such as when to clean the filter, while battery status and other diagnostics are built directly into the handle.

Unlike other Dyson stick vacuums, the PencilVac Fluffycones features an integrated dust collection system with no removable canister or battery block. Dirt is drawn into the body and compacted using suction force. The transparent collection bin holds approximately 0.8 liters and allows users to see debris accumulate like a gauge. Emptying the unit involves removing the cleaning head, pointing the vacuum at a trash can, and sliding out the compacted dust — a process that avoids the dust clouds typical of many vacuums.

Storage is facilitated by a free-standing charging dock, eliminating the need for wall mounts or drilling — a benefit for renters. Battery life averages around 20 minutes depending on usage and surface conditions, dropping below 10 minutes on boost mode. Charging takes over three hours, which may limit extended cleaning sessions but remains suitable for quick cleanups in small apartments or tidy homes.

At $600, the PencilVac Fluffycones is $50 less than the V15 Detect and $150 cheaper than the newer PencilVac Fluffy model, which uses a more traditional dual-roller system. While it excels in agility and design innovation, its limitations in suction power and carpet performance mean it is best suited for users with primarily hard flooring who prioritize ease of use and storage flexibility over deep-cleaning capability.
