E-hailing Driver Killed in Pretoria West, Woman Arrested

JOHANNESBURG – A female suspect is in custody following the death of an e-hailing driver in Pretoria West on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Police confirmed the arrest and stated the woman is facing charges of car hijacking and murder.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, preliminary investigations suggest the victim was attacked and killed by both a man and a woman who had requested his e-hailing service. The hijacked vehicle and the body of the driver were discovered in Atteridgeville on the same day.

The arrest comes after a disturbing video circulated widely on social media platforms depicting an assault on an e-hailing driver. Police strongly condemned the sharing of the graphic footage, urging social media users not to repost, forward, or share the video. “The police strongly condemn the circulation of the video that depicts what appears to be a gruesome murder of the victim,” Colonel Masondo stated.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 16, 2026. Police indicated that further arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.

This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns for e-hailing drivers. Recent measures have been gazetted to improve driver safety, though details of those measures were not immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the crime. Masondo confirmed that more arrests are imminent.

The case has drawn attention to the risks faced by those working in the e-hailing industry, prompting renewed calls for increased safety protocols and security measures. The circulation of the video sparked widespread outrage and concern among the public and within the e-hailing community.

Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
