Dynasty mode has been the heart of the EA Sports College Football franchise, setting the standard for coaching career modes. When EA Sports revived the franchise last year, they understood Dynasty mode was the centerpiece of EA CFB 25. The development team for EA Sports College Football 26 focused on building on that foundation, addressing player complaints like crossplay, and providing more customization options.
Lead designer Ben Haumiller said their goal was to add missing core pieces, refine the existing structure, and avoid unneeded changes. EA Sports released itS deep dive into Dynasty mode, highlighting five major changes and updates.
recruiting and the Transfer Portal
Recruiting and the transfer portal are crucial to dynasty mode, keeping the game fresh.Haumiller noted players embraced the challenge of starting at smaller schools and wanted more difficulty.
Haumiller said players wanted a challenge and the freedom to figure things out themselves. The focus was on expanding recruiting and the portal, providing more tools and data, creating new challenges, and improving the player experience.
New Positions, More Recruits, More Players in Portal: The game has adopted modern terminology for defensive positions, such as EDGE, SAM, WILL, and MIKE. It also includes nose tackles, long snappers, and a “Gadget Receiver” archetype. The game features more recruits (4,100) and more players in the portal (about 2,000).
Dealbreakers for Every player: Every player now has a dealbreaker that changes based on their skill level. Lower-level recruits may have a D+ dealbreaker, while elite players may need an A. A player’s dealbreaker threshold changes as they improve.
Playing time matters for highly rated players, especially QBs. The Playing Time dealbreaker now evaluates their depth chart position and how many snaps they are getting. Archetypes and abilities can definitely help manage dealbreakers. The Strategist archetype can reduce the grade threshold for a player’s dealbreaker, while the Master Motivator archetype makes a player less likely to transfer if their dealbreaker is broken.
My school Ratings Tweaks: It will be harder to get A or B ratings in school categories, creating a more realistic separation between elite programs and others. Pro Potential now factors in draft results for the past four seasons.
updates to Playing Style allow team stats to influence defensive players more than individual stats.
Location Matters for Visits: The cost of visits varies based on location, making it easier for smaller schools to recruit locally.
Recruiting Battles: Recruiting battles are back. If a recruit is neck-and-neck between two teams, a 1-on-1 recruiting battle will occur.
Quality of Life improvements: Team needs are now a permanent pinned item on top of the prospect list. The recruiting board screen features more information, such as where you are on a recruit’s board and their recruiting stage. There are also improved filters in prospect search.
Expanded Coaching Details
Coaching is a major focus, with the addition of real-world coaches.
Real-World Coaches: Players can start as an established coach or create their own, battling actual coaches in games and recruiting. The coaches have archetype trees, skill levels, pipelines, playbooks, and play-calling tendencies based on their real-life counterparts. There are 300 coaches in the game.
progression Goes to Level 100: Players can progress their coach to level 100, allowing them to continue developing traits and adding archetypes.
New Archetype Progression and Costs: It is now more expensive to progress your coach, and the costs are dynamic based on what you’ve already purchased.
