Saquon Barkley Adjusts Training for Eagles⁢ After⁣ Record-Breaking Year

‍ ‌ Updated June 16, 2025

PHILADELPHIA — After a historic 2024 season, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon barkley is taking a different approach to his offseason training. Advised‍ by coaches, mentors, and Hall⁤ of Fame running backs,‌ Barkley is prioritizing‌ rest and⁣ recovery⁢ to ensure his body is ready for the⁢ upcoming season.

Barkley, 28, is coming off a ‌year where he set a single-season record ⁤with‍ 2,504 rushing yards between the regular ⁣season and⁣ playoffs. He also added ‍499 yards‌ and ⁣five⁣ touchdowns in the playoffs, helping the Eagles secure their ⁤second⁤ Super Bowl victory. The heavy workload has prompted a shift in his ⁤training ideology.

Previously, Barkley admitted he felt⁤ compelled to‌ match the intense workouts⁤ of⁢ other top running backs like Derrick Henry⁣ and Christian McCaffrey. Tho, this year, he’s⁤ focusing on a more ⁣balanced approach.

Barkley consulted with Eagles head⁢ coach Nick Sirianni and running backs coach Jemal ⁢Singleton, as well as former NFL stars Marshall Faulk and Edgerrin James. The consensus was clear: prioritize recovery.

“You’ve just got to be smarter, right? You have ⁤yoru moments where ⁢you‍ go ‍in ‍there and you grind, you push it,” Barkley said.”But the majority of those days is just mobility,⁣ conditioning, doing all the things to get your⁤ body ‌in shape to perform at a high level. It ⁢was a lot of workload [last year], but⁢ my body feels great, so that’s the‌ most ⁤important thing.”
⁤

Sirianni emphasized ‌that the Eagles create individualized training programs for each ‍player, taking into account player feedback ‍and input⁣ from trainers and strength staff.

‍ ⁤ “We kind of monitored ⁤everybody as we went,” Sirianni said. “we got a lot of good work in, Saquon got⁤ a⁣ lot of ⁢good work ‌in and yeah, I’m pleased ‍with how the ⁢offseason program has gone.”
‍

Barkley said he plans to⁣ ease into training camp, rather⁤ than arriving fully prepared ‍for Week 1. This will allow him to gradually⁣ build up his conditioning and avoid overexertion.

What’s next

Barkley believes this new approach will⁤ allow him to enter ‍the season feeling fresh ⁤and ready to perform at⁢ his peak. “I feel really good,” he⁣ said. “I feel like I’m‌ entering my prime.”
