The Breakaway Music Festival in Dallas faced significant scrutiny after residents in neighborhoods miles away from the venue reported disruptive noise levels during the event’s weekend run.

The festival took place at Fair Park, located at 3809 Grand Avenue in Dallas. Noise complaints were filed on April 10 and April 11, 2026, as residents in East Dallas and Lakewood reported hearing loud music and bass late into the night.

According to the festival’s promotion site, the event was scheduled to run from 3 p.m. To 11 p.m. Despite these scheduled hours, residents reported that the sound traveled significant distances, with some affected individuals living at least seven miles north of the venue.

City Council Response and Sound Monitoring

District 7 City Council Member Adam Bazaldua, whose district includes Fair Park, issued a statement addressing the complaints. Bazaldua noted that he has been coordinating with the city’s park and recreation department to manage the situation.

As a result of the complaints, festival organizers began measuring decibel levels at the site. Bazaldua confirmed that sound monitoring is currently underway around Fair Park to more accurately assess and manage noise levels.

Interestingly, Bazaldua reported that residents living in the neighborhoods directly surrounding the venue were not as disturbed by the music as those living further away.

Factors Contributing to Noise Travel

The City Council member attributed the far-reaching noise to a combination of weather conditions and the specific positioning of the festival stages.

Bazaldua explained that the stage was positioned to face open land. Because there were no buildings in the immediate vicinity to absorb or deflect the sound, the music was able to travel across the landscape without obstruction.

The decision to face the stage toward open space was intentional. According to Bazaldua, this layout was chosen to prevent audio interference between the Breakaway Music Festival and other events occurring at the Dos Equis Pavilion.

Residents took to social media to describe the impact of the festival, stating that the bass was powerful enough to shake their homes despite the mileage between their residences and the Fair Park grounds.
