East Jakarta has recorded 524 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) between January and April 2025,according to the East Jakarta‍ Health Office.

Dengue Fever Cases and Mortality

Herwin Meifendy, head ‍of the East Jakarta Health ⁣Office, confirmed the figures, stating that the⁤ period⁢ from January 1 to April 16,‌ 2025, saw 524 reported cases of DHF, with one fatality. Meifendy provided ⁢this information on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Decline in Dengue‍ Cases Compared to 2024

Health officials noted a decrease in DHF⁢ cases during the same period compared to the previous year.

“In april, cases decreased from 850 in 2024 to‌ 85 ⁤in 2025,” Meifendy said.

El ⁢Nino’s ⁢Impact on dengue Fever

Meifendy attributed the higher number of DHF cases in 2024 to climate change factors, including the El Nino phenomenon.

Ongoing Prevention Efforts

Meifendy claimed that the decline in DHF cases this year is due to both changes in climate and continuous prevention and control efforts.

“The One House Jumantik (Larvae Monitoring) Movement continues to be optimized throughout East Jakarta,” Meifendy stated.

Dengue Risk Factors: Age and Mobility

Meifendy ⁤added that DHF cases are prevalent among school-age ‌children and working adults due to their higher mobility.

“DHF cases are mostly‌ found in ⁤school-age and working-age individuals as this age group has a high level of mobility, increasing their risk of transmission,” said Meifendy.

Jakarta Government Anticipated Increase

Earlier‍ reports indicated that the Jakarta Provincial Government anticipated an increase in DHF cases during the rainy season in 2025.

ngabila Salaha, head of the Surveillance,Epidemiology, and Immunization Section of the Jakarta Health Office, projected that the peak of DHF cases woudl occur by the end of April.

“The DHF case cycle is ⁤typically one month after the peak of the rainy season. If March experiences the heaviest rainfall, then April is usually ⁣the ⁤peak,” Ngaba said.

“Last year, El Nino extended the dry season, increasing‌ the⁤ risk of⁣ cases at the begining of this rainy season,” Ngaba added.

Community Action Urged

Ngaba urged the community to regularly eliminate mosquito ⁣breeding sites, emphasizing that weather, humidity, and ‍community behavior influence the number of DHF cases.

The Jakarta Health Office has observed that many DHF cases occur in school-age ⁢children who are frequently‌ active outdoors.

Ngabila explained⁢ that Aedes aegypti mosquitoes⁣ are most active between 8:00 AM‍ and 10:00 AM and again from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
