Current Situation (as of September 28, 2025)

The ongoing Ebola outbreak in Kasai province, Democratic republic of the Congo, has claimed the lives of 42 people out of 64 recorded cases, according to local health authorities China Daily HK. The outbreak was officially declared on September 4, 2025, marking the 16th instance of Ebola in the DRC China daily HK.

As of September 26, 2025, the outbreak includes 53 confirmed cases and 11 probable cases. Of the 42 fatalities, 31 were among those wiht confirmed Ebola infections, as reported by Bazin Pembe, the provincial minister of communication and media China Daily HK.

Understanding Ebola Virus Disease

Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a severe, frequently enough fatal illness in humans. The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through direct contact with body fluids of infected people, contaminated objects (like needles), or the bodies of deceased individuals World Health Organization (WHO) – Ebola virus Disease.

Symptoms typically appear 2 to 21 days after infection and can include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and in many cases, internal and external bleeding WHO. The severity of the illness varies, and fatality rates have ranged from 25% to 90% in past outbreaks WHO.
