Ebola Claims 31 Lives in DR Congo, WHO ‍Responds

Geneva – A⁣ recent Ebola outbreak in teh Democratic Republic of Congo has tragically claimed the⁤ lives of 31 people this month, the World Health ‍Institution (WHO)⁣ announced on Thursday,⁣ September⁣ 18, 2025.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus ⁤addressed reporters in Geneva, confirming 48 cases, including both confirmed and suspected ⁢infections. This marks the first Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo in three years.

the outbreak, initially ⁣detected two weeks ago near the city of Bulape, has now spread to four districts, according to the African Disease Control and Prevention⁢ Center. Previously,the ⁤outbreak was limited to two districts.

The WHO and its partners are actively supporting the congolese goverment’s response efforts. To date, over 14 tons of essential medical supplies and equipment have been dispatched, and 48 experts have been mobilized to assist on the ground.

“We have helped establish an Ebola treatment center with 18 beds, and currently there are 16 patients who⁢ are being treated,” Dr. Tedros stated.

Vaccination efforts are underway, ⁢targeting ⁤contacts of confirmed cases, potential⁢ contacts, and⁢ frontline healthcare workers. In addition, a supply⁣ of Monoclonal MAB114 antibody therapy has been delivered to treatment centers ⁣in Bulape, with 14 patients having already received ‍the drug.
