Voting in Uganda’s elections is scheduled to begin in two days, and the effectiveness of international observers remains a key question. Watchdog Uganda will provide continuing coverage of the electoral process as events unfold.

Uganda’s Electoral History
Uganda has a history of contested elections and concerns about electoral irregularities. In the 2021 presidential election, the European Union Election Observation Mission issued a report detailing significant shortcomings, including restrictions on freedom of expression and assembly, and a lack of impartiality among electoral officials.The report noted that while the technical aspects of the election were well-managed,the overall environment was not conducive to a free and fair election.The 2021 election resulted in incumbent Yoweri Museveni winning a sixth term in office.
