Emily Sommer Faces New Assault Charges After ed Martin Incident
Updated June 21, 2025
Emily Sommer, already facing charges for allegedly spitting on former interim U.S. Attorney for D.C., Ed Martin, now faces additional assault charges. The new charges stem from an incident during her arrest for violating release conditions, according to court documents.
The initial incident occurred May 8 when Sommer approached martin, who was being interviewed by Newsmax on a Washington, D.C.,sidewalk. Sommer allegedly spat on Martin’s shoulder before stating,”I am Emily Sommer, and you are served,” and walking away.
U.S.Marshals identified Sommer using video footage and social media posts where she seemingly bragged about the encounter, even writing that it was a pleasure to “spit in your face.”
Sommer was arrested May 22 and released with instructions not to contact Martin. However, prosecutors say Sommer violated this order June 3 with multiple posts on X directed at Martin. the posts included taunting messages such as, “You mad, bro? You got fired and then caught a loogie to the shoulder,” and “I’ll make sure DC eats you alive and spits you back out.”
Following these posts, a motion was filed to revoke Sommer’s release, leading to her re-arrest and detention at the D.C.jail. During this second arrest, she allegedly kicked and spat on two U.S. marshals, resulting in the new assault charges.
Sommer is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
What’s next
