Ed Sheeran’s India trip: ‘Sapphire’ song, Arijit Singh and Shah Rukh Khan

British pop star Ed Sheeran recently offered fans a glimpse into his three-week India adventure. The trip, wich served as inspiration for his “Sapphire” music video, involved collaborations with Indian music icon Arijit Singh and a meeting with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The “Sapphire” music video is from Sheeran’s upcoming album, “Play.”
Sheeran’s journey included visits to the sets of “Baahubali” in Hyderabad, playing soccer in Shillong, exploring Old Delhi’s spice markets, and jamming with musicians in Mumbai. He described India as a place with a “rich tapestry of culture,” acknowledging its beauty and energy, but also its “full-on chaos.”

A highlight of the trip was his time with Shah Rukh Khan. Sheeran recounted meeting Khan at Gymkhana, an Indian restaurant in London, where Khan invited him to his home in bandra for a game of padel. Sheeran said Khan suggested they collaborate on a Hindi song for one of his film projects. sheeran later asked Khan to appear in the “Sapphire” video.
Sheeran also collaborated with Arijit Singh, singing the Punjabi hook in “Sapphire.” He traveled to Singh’s hometown in west Bengal, a journey of nearly 36 hours. Sheeran called working with Singh “the final jigsaw piece of this song.”
Sheeran praised Singh, saying, “He’s one of the moast talented humans I’ve ever met, and I’m so grateful he shared his talent with me for this song.” He added that a full Punjabi version of their recording would be released soon.
