Edward Ssekandi Praises President Museveni’s Legacy of Service and Peace
Presidential Envoy on Political Affairs Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi congratulated Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his birthday, praising his decades of service, sacrifice, and regional leadership across Uganda and East Africa. According to a message shared on Ssekandi’s official X account, the former vice president highlighted a political partnership that has spanned significant institutional and economic changes since Museveni came to power in 1986.
A Political Journey Spanning Decades in Government

Ssekandi operated from his office on the fourth floor of Kampala Kingdom on Tuesday as he reflected on a political career running alongside Museveni’s administration. Ssekandi served as Speaker of Parliament from 2001 to 2011 before taking office as Vice President, a post he held until 2021. Their years together in senior government coincided with major political and economic shifts within Uganda.
President Museveni has led Uganda since the National Resistance Movement assumed power in 1986. Supporters point to his administration’s investments in infrastructure, roads, education, healthcare, and electricity as key drivers in restoring stability and transforming the nation’s subsistence economy into a more commercial and industrial model. Meanwhile, critics continue to question governance, democratic space, and the strength of public institutions, cementing Museveni’s status as a central and heavily debated figure in modern Ugandan history.
Reflections on Peace, Progress, and Regional Integration

Ssekandi’s extensive travel across Uganda during his decade as Vice President brought him into direct contact with rural communities and local leaders, shaping his perspective on public service. His birthday tribute focused heavily on three core themes: peace, progress, and service. According to Ssekandi, true leadership is measured by what it leaves behind for future generations.
Happiest birthday Your Excellency @KagutaMuseveni. Having had the honour of serving alongside you, I remain deeply inspired by your visionary leadership and monumental contribution to the peace and progress of Uganda and the wider East African region. Your legacy of sacrifice and service continues to light the path for generations to come. I wish you excellent health, great joy, and the continuous guidance of the Almighty in this new chapter.
Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi
Beyond national borders, Ssekandi emphasized Museveni’s active role in regional affairs. The Ugandan leader has long advocated for East African integration and stronger cooperation within the East African Community. These regional ties connect Uganda’s economy to neighboring markets, maintaining a central role for diplomacy in trade and security discussions across East Africa.
