Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow announced on April 3, 2026, that the Eglinton Crosstown LRT (Line 5) will expand its service hours and implement travel-time reductions starting April 5, 2026.
The operational changes mark a transition for the transit line as it moves out of its early testing phase. The city intends to increase the viability of Line 5 for commuters, specifically late-night workers who previously relied on rideshare services and shuttle buses.
Expanded Service Hours
Starting April 5, 2026, service on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT will run until 1:20 a.m. From Sundays to Fridays. On Saturdays, the service will operate until 12:30 a.m.
These extended hours represent a significant increase from the previous schedule, which saw service end at 11 p.m.
To complement the expanded LRT schedule, the TTC’s Blue Night bus service will continue to operate. From Monday to Saturday, the bus service runs from 1 a.m. Until train service resumes at 6 a.m., and from 1 a.m. To 7:30 a.m. On Sundays.
Infrastructure and Efficiency Upgrades
Alongside the extended hours, the city has implemented signal priority upgrades along the above-ground portions of the route. This technology allows trains to move through intersections without being delayed by turning vehicles.

According to Mayor Chow, these upgrades result in trips being approximately 10 minutes faster each way, which saves riders roughly 20 minutes on a round trip.
The TTC has also detailed the frequency of the service under the new operational phase:
- Trains will arrive approximately every four minutes during the busiest times of the day.
- Trains will arrive every six to 10 minutes during off-peak times.
Operational Context
The Eglinton Crosstown LRT officially opened for service on February 8, 2026. The current expansion of hours and the introduction of signal priority are part of the city’s effort to stabilize the line following its initial launch period.
Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown. Remember how long we’ve been waiting for it? It’s open, but it was a test period. Now we are extending the hours to very late, to 1:20 a.m.
Mayor Olivia Chow
Mayor Chow noted that the line’s efficiency is bolstered by the fact that two-thirds of the route is underground, which she described as being almost like a subway
.
The mayor stated on April 3, 2026, that the service has been smooth
and trouble free
for users thus far.
