Egypt and Belarus Strengthen Healthcare Collaboration wiht Focus on Local Production
Egypt and Belarus are actively deepening their strategic partnership in healthcare,with recent discussions centering on expanding cooperation in pharmaceutical manufacturing,medical technology,and joint production initiatives. On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, Egyptian Minister of Health and Population, khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with Belarusian Ambassador yevgeny Sobolevsky to formalize these commitments.
The talks highlighted the health sector as a key area for strengthened bilateral ties. Specifically, officials explored collaborative opportunities in the production of essential medicines, vaccines, and medical supplies, aiming to enhance both countries’ healthcare infrastructure and self-sufficiency. A meaningful focus was placed on technology transfer and the exchange of expertise to accelerate advancements in the field.
Beyond core medical supplies, the discussions extended to bolstering food security through the potential local production of infant formula in Egypt. This initiative aims to improve child health outcomes while reducing reliance on imports. Both nations also examined avenues to increase pharmaceutical trade, with a particular emphasis on securing regulatory approvals for Egyptian pharmaceutical products within the Belarusian market.
To ensure tangible progress, both sides agreed on the importance of establishing clear implementation mechanisms and are actively drafting new memoranda of understanding (MOUs) focused on priority health areas.Furthermore, the possibility of co-producing medical devices was explored, signaling a move towards greater industrial collaboration.
Ambassador Sobolevsky commended Egypt’s ongoing efforts to modernize and improve its healthcare system and reiterated Belarus’s dedication to expanding cooperation in pharmaceuticals and medical technology. He expressed optimism that this partnership will yield mutual benefits for both countries in the years to come.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Egyptian Ministry of Health, as well as representatives from the Belarusian Embassy.
