Egypt Conference Focuses on Climate Action and Environmental Innovation

Cairo – Government officials, academics, and policy experts convened in Egypt on Tuesday for the International Conference on Climate and Environment.The conference aims to tackle environmental challenges and foster sustainable development thru environmental innovation.
the event, held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and the Arab League, is organized by Nile University and the Engineers for Sustainable Egypt Foundation, with support from various ministries. It coincides with World environment Day.
ayman Ashour, minister of higher education and scientific research, speaking for Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, stressed the vital role universities and research institutions play in developing innovations and promoting public engagement on environmental issues. He called climate change one of humanity’s most urgent threats.
Ashour reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to integrating climate and environmental goals into its research and academic partnerships.
Former Foreign minister Amr Moussa,Grand Mufti Nazir Ayad,and climate economist Mahmoud Mohieldin were among the attendees.
Osama Al-Azhari, minister of religious endowments, pledged his ministry’s support for climate awareness, announcing a partnership with Nile University to promote environmental stewardship.
Nile University President Wael Akl highlighted the conference’s alignment with Egypt’s sustainability strategies. He noted the university’s contributions to renewable energy, smart agriculture, and climate modeling.
Akl proposed a national “Science Valley” to cultivate future scientists and green entrepreneurs, supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030 and UN sustainable Development Goals.
Mohamed Kamel, chair of the Engineers for Sustainable Egypt Foundation, said the conference builds on previous editions and supports the United Nations Environment Program’s goal to end plastic pollution. He announced an award for impactful environmental protection innovation.
Nevine Abdel Khalek, dean of continuing education at Nile University, said the conference seeks to boost public understanding of climate change and promote sustainable development projects.
Sessions at the conference address the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism,circular economy frameworks,green hydrogen technologies,and the use of artificial intelligence in water and environmental systems.
Panel discussions will cover sustainable urban development, Egypt’s Vision 2030, and incentivizing green investment.
The conference also features an exhibition of green innovation projects and a roundtable on plastic reduction.
