Expanding Regional Medical Capabilities
A Saudi Arabian delegation, led by Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer, Deputy Minister of Industry and mineral Resources for Mining Affairs, recently toured the Wadi El-Nile stio hemodialysis filter and dialyzer manufacturing plant in Cairo, Egypt. The visit,part of an official trip,signals a deepening collaboration between the two nations to bolster regional healthcare infrastructure and manufacturing capacity.
During the tour on November 30,2023,the delegation examined the plant’s advanced production lines,which produce critical medical supplies. Wadi El-Nile Stio demonstrated its adherence to both global quality standards and the requirements of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA).
Localization of Hemodialysis Filter Production
Discussions centered on a potential partnership to localize the production of hemodialysis filters within Saudi arabia. This initiative directly supports Saudi Vision 2030, a strategic framework aimed at diversifying the Saudi economy and reducing reliance on oil. It also aligns with Egypt’s own goals of expanding local pharmaceutical manufacturing and achieving self-sufficiency in essential medical supplies.
Tamer F. , Vice Chairperson of the EDA, emphasized the authority’s commitment to facilitating joint industrial investments, highlighting the benefits of Egyptian-Saudi cooperation for broader Arab pharmaceutical and medical security. The EDA plays a crucial role in regulating and approving medical products within Egypt.
Leveraging Egyptian Expertise
Al-Mudaifer acknowledged Egypt’s established industrial base and its potential to contribute substantially to Saudi Arabia’s localization efforts under Vision 2030. This recognition underscores Egypt’s growing role as a regional manufacturing hub.
Amr abdel-Razek, Chairperson of Wadi El-Nile Stio Life science, described the visit as a pivotal moment for Arab cooperation in the medical industry. He stressed the importance of localizing production to foster a competitive regional medical technology sector.
Joint Action Plan and Future Collaboration
Both sides agreed to prioritize technical coordination and develop a extensive joint plan to localize hemodialysis filter production. This plan will focus on knowledge exchange and strengthening regional manufacturing capabilities.
