Lebanon Explosions: Egyptian President Offers Support and Assistance
(Central News Agency reporter Shi Wanqing’s special report from Cairo on the 18th) Pager explosions occurred across Lebanon yesterday, causing at least 12 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries. The Egyptian Foreign Minister called the Lebanese leader that day to express Egyptian President Sisi’s support for Lebanon and his instructions to provide assistance to Lebanon.
The Egyptian media “Al Ahram” reported that Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty had a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib yesterday. Abdelatty issued a statement saying that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi instructed that Egypt would express firm support for Lebanon at this critical moment, while committing to maintaining Lebanon’s security and stability, and rejecting any infringement of Lebanese sovereignty by external forces.
Abdelatty also warned that regional conflicts may escalate into a full-scale regional war, and emphasized that the recent serious and rapid development of events in southern Lebanon has brought high risks.
Abdelatty reiterated that an immediate ceasefire is urgently needed in the Gaza Strip to avoid further escalation of the situation.
Abdelatty also called on Israel to immediately cease its aggression in the West Bank, reach an agreement to release prisoners and detainees, and ensure that Palestinians in Gaza receive full and unrestricted assistance.
