Partnership to focus on Migration, Green Economy, and Governance
Egypt and Switzerland have initiated a new joint cooperation program, slated to run from 2025 to 2028, with a total value of CHF 60 million (approximately $67 million USD, based on current exchange rates).The program will prioritize three key areas: migration management, sustainable green economic development, and improvements to governance structures.
The launch event took place at the headquarters of the Egyptian ministry of Planning in the New Administrative Capital. attendees included Minister of Planning Rania Al-Mashat and Ambassador Patricia danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
A Continuing Collaboration
This new program represents the fourth phase of cooperation between Egypt and Switzerland as 2012, building upon a partnership that has spanned more than 45 years. According to official statements, the program aims to strengthen economic ties and encourage increased investment and trade between the two nations.
Minister Al-Mashat emphasized the Egyptian government’s commitment to fostering stronger economic relationships through high-level dialogues involving both government officials and the private sectors of Egypt and Switzerland. She also highlighted recent economic and structural reforms undertaken by egypt, which have positively impacted the investment and business climate.
Switzerland’s Ambassador to Egypt,Andreas Baum,described the relationship as one built on “trust,shared values,and mutual respect.” He stated that the new program isn’t a fresh start, but rather a continuation of decades of collaborative work focused on protecting lives, promoting green growth, and strengthening good governance for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
Ambassador Danzi of the SDC noted the program’s alignment with Switzerland’s Strategy for International Cooperation 2025-2028, which prioritizes humanitarian aid, migration, democracy, private sector development, and climate change mitigation.
Additional Discussions and Congratulations
During the launch event, the Swiss delegation extended congratulations to the egyptian government on the recent inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum. Discussions also covered collaborative efforts to enhance South-South cooperation, triangular cooperation initiatives, and the evolving dynamics of Egyptian-European relations.
