Egypt is experiencing fluctuating weather conditions as it enters the fourth day of Ramadan, Sunday, February 22, 2026. A marked temperature difference between day and night, coupled with various atmospheric phenomena, is expected to persist for several hours, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).

Dense Fog and Reduced Visibility

Dense fog is forecast to blanket large areas of the country from 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM, impacting regions from northern Egypt to Greater Cairo, the Canal cities, northern Upper Egypt, and central Sinai. The EMA warns that visibility may be significantly reduced, particularly on agricultural roads, highways, and near bodies of water.

Active Winds and Dust Storms

Active winds are anticipated across most of Egypt, potentially stirring up sand and dust in parts of the Western Desert, central and southern Upper Egypt, and the Red Sea Governorate. This poses a potential risk to individuals with allergies and respiratory conditions.

Chance of Rainfall in Northern Regions

Intermittent light to moderate showers are possible along the northern coast and in the northern Nile Delta. Low clouds are also predicted over Greater Cairo, southern Lower Egypt, and the Canal cities, potentially bringing light, non-impactful drizzle in some locations. Further rainfall is expected to move towards the Delta governorates, Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, and northern Sinai, though it will be scattered and not confined to specific areas, and may be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Temperature Forecasts

Temperatures in Greater Cairo are expected to range from a low of 11°C to a high of 22°C. The New Administrative Capital will see a low of 10°C and a high of 21°C. In 6th of October City, the low will be 10°C and the high 21°C, while Benha is forecast to have a low of 11°C and a high of 22°C.

Further afield, Damanhour will experience temperatures ranging from a low of 10°C to a high of 21°C. Wadi El Natrun will see a low of 11°C and a high of 21°C, and Kafr El Sheikh is forecast to have a low of 10°C and a high of 20°C. In southern regions, Suhaj is expected to reach a high of 24°C with a low of 10°C, Qena a high of 28°C and a low of 11°C, and Aswan a high of 29°C and a low of 12°C.

Broader Regional Weather Patterns

The EMA forecasts unstable weather across Egypt from Sunday until Friday, with temperatures gradually decreasing by approximately three degrees Celsius. This will result in mild winter conditions during the day and cooler nights. Winds will increase in speed on Monday, potentially accompanied by strong gusts, particularly in the Western Desert, Upper and Lower Egypt, and the Red Sea Governorate.

On Sunday, warm to hot conditions are expected across most of the country. There is a chance of rainfall on the far northwestern coast, specifically in Marsa Matrouh, with moderate and intermittent showers. This rainfall is expected to gradually extend to the rest of the northern coast and northern Lower Egypt.

Advice and Warnings

The EMA advises citizens to wear warm clothing during the night and early morning hours, especially during Suhoor and Fajr prayer. Drivers are urged to exercise caution during periods of fog and to avoid excessive speeds on the roads. Citizens are also encouraged to stay informed about the latest weather updates to prepare for any sudden changes in conditions during the coming days.

The combination of fluctuating temperatures, potential rainfall, and strong winds presents a complex weather scenario for Egypt during this period of Ramadan. The EMA’s forecasts highlight the importance of preparedness and caution for residents and travelers alike. The active winds also raise concerns about air quality, particularly for vulnerable populations.
