Ceremony Marks Major Milestone

On November 29,2023,Egypt officially commenced⁣ the installation of the ⁢reactor vessel ⁤for its first nuclear ⁢power plant,located in Dabaa,approximately‌ 130 kilometers⁣ (81 miles) west of Alexandria. The ceremony, attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir‌ Putin, signaled a notable advancement in the ​project, a​ cornerstone of Egypt’s energy strategy.

According to presidential ⁤spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy, the ceremony featured a documentary⁣ detailing the nuclear project’s​ progress and addresses from Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, Egyptian Electricity Minister‍ Mahmoud Essmat,​ and International Atomic energy Agency (IAEA) director General Rafael Grossi. Earlier on November​ 29th,Egypt ⁢signed an order to purchase nuclear fuel for the first reactor core of ​Unit 1,a Generation III+⁤ VVER-1200 ⁣reactor. This reactor type ⁤is a ⁢pressurized water reactor (PWR) known for⁤ its enhanced safety features.
