Egypt’s Screen Siren in the Crosshairs: ‘Sophia Loren of the East’ Embroiled in Security Scandal
Egyptian Dancer “Sophia Loren” Arrested for Violating Public Morality
Egyptian police have arrested a famous dancer known as “Sophia Loren” on the TikTok application. The arrest took place in a nightclub in the Aguja area of Giza Governorate on Sunday evening.
The arrest was made after security services observed video clips of the dancer presenting content against public morality. The clips showed the dancer displaying sensitive parts of her body on social media sites, prompting the formation of a research team to investigate and arrest her.
After preparing a suitable ambush, the detectives were able to arrest the dancer inside the nightclub. Sophia Loren was blamed for violating public morality, and the necessary legal measures were taken against her. The public prosecution is currently undertaking a follow-up investigation.
This is not the first time an Egyptian blogger or dancer has been arrested for publishing obscene videos. In a similar case, the Economic Court ruled to punish blogger Nadine Tariq to a year in prison and a fine of £100,000 last July. The charges included inciting immorality and adultery, publishing obscene videos, and uttering words and suggestions that violate public morals.
Another TikTok user, Hadir Abdel Razzaq, faced similar charges last May over “disrespectful” content on her account. She later announced her retirement from the social networking site entirely after a scandal involving a clip of her.
