U.S. Men’s Hockey Team Defeats Denmark 6-3, Led by Eichel and Tkachuk

MILAN, Italy – Jack Eichel and Brady Tkachuk spearheaded a comeback victory for the United States men’s hockey team, leading them to a 6-3 defeat of Denmark on Saturday night at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The win keeps the U.S. In contention for the top seed in the tournament, tied with Canada.

The Americans found themselves trailing early in the game, but a shift in momentum sparked by Eichel and Tkachuk turned the tide. Eichel scored off a faceoff win just a minute after assisting on Brady Tkachuk’s goal, also stemming from a faceoff, to give the U.S. A lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

“That’s why we’re here, we are all competitors,” Eichel said after the game.

Brady Tkachuk emphasized the team’s resilience, stating, “We were just sticking with it, trusting each other. That’s what shows the character in our room is the trust and belief with one another that, if we stick with it, we’ll like the result at the end of the day.”

The U.S. Initially faced a setback when Denmark’s Nicholas B. Jensen scored from 95 feet away, a long-distance shot that caught goaltender Jeremy Swayman off guard. However, the Americans quickly regrouped, fueled by their top line’s performance. Swayman downplayed the goal, acknowledging the strong play of his teammates in securing the win.

“I’m really proud of this group for staying even-keeled,” Swayman said. “The confidence never left the group, and that’s a serious trait at this stage in the tournament. The guys rallied, and we got it done.”

Noah Hanifin extended the U.S. Lead with a goal that trickled past Danish goaltender Mads Sogaard. Later in the game, Jake Guentzel scored a one-timer, assisted by Auston Matthews, and Jack Hughes added another goal off a feed from Brock Nelson after Sogaard was replaced by Frederik Dichow due to injury.

The U.S. Team demonstrated strong teamwork, with Zach Werenski earning a secondary assist on Guentzel’s goal, a moment of redemption after accidentally deflecting a puck into his own net earlier in the game, which was credited as Denmark’s first goal.

The atmosphere in Santagiulia Arena was electric, with enthusiastic chants of “U-S-A!” echoing throughout the arena after each American goal. Denmark’s Phillip Bruggisser acknowledged the strength of the U.S. Team, stating, “We battled hard and tried everything we had. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, but they’re an all-star team and we gave it what we had.”

Following a 5-1 victory over Latvia on Thursday, the U.S. Now holds six points in the standings, matching Canada’s total. The Americans will conclude the preliminary round against Germany on Sunday, while Canada will face France. A win for both teams in regulation would determine the top seed based on goal differential.

The U.S. Victory sets the stage for a potentially exciting finish to the preliminary round and positions them favorably for a deep run in the Olympic tournament.
