Results from the 2024 Trier Bike Climate Survey
In the previous evaluation covering the 2024 period, Trier secured a grade of 4.4 and finished in 37th place out of 42 participating cities in the population category between 100,000 and 200,000 residents. A total of 365 participants from Trier contributed their feedback to that survey. While participants flagged safety concerns and traffic interactions negatively, they pointed to municipal bicycle promotion efforts and an expanding number of bike parking facilities as positive developments.
Johannes Ulbricht, ADFC Trier, stated that the bike climate survey provides a concrete insight into how people experience cycling in Trier, and that the results serve as an important basis for discussions on improving bicycle traffic.
Expansion of the 2026 Participation Process
The ADFC Trier urges as many residents as possible to participate in the ongoing 2026 assessment to capture a wider cross-section of daily riding conditions. The survey remains open to everyone who cycles in the city, whether for commuting to work or school, shopping, recreation, or occasional trips. The questionnaire comprises 27 items covering route conditions, path widths, destination accessibility, and general friendliness toward cyclists. A new addition for the 2026 cycle is a dedicated questionnaire enabling children and teenagers to independently report their experiences and infrastructure needs on routes to school or sports facilities.
Timeline and Public Access Through November
The ADFC-Fahrradklima-Test accepts submissions online at fkt.adfc.de through November 30, 2026. Organizers expect to release the final findings in the spring of 2027. Nationally, the broader evaluation gathered approximately 213,000 responses during the previous nationwide rollout.
