One Dead, One Critically Injured in Miami-Dade Tow Truck Crash

One man died and another was hospitalized in critical condition following a rollover crash involving two tow trucks in southwest Miami-Dade County on Monday, February 16, 2026. The crash occurred around 9 a.m. In the area of Southwest 288th Street and Old Dixie Highway, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arriving at the scene found one adult male already deceased. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews pronounced the death at the scene. A second man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released the identities of either individual.

Dashcam footage of the incident shows a red tow truck flipping over and coming to rest in a grassy area, impacting an electrical pole. A black tow truck sustained front-end damage. The roadway was covered in debris as a result of the collision.

“We heard like a bomb,” said Milca Macary, a resident who lives near the intersection. “That’s when we saw that truck flipped over.” Macary added that she believes one of the drivers may have run a red light, and noted that crashes have occurred in the area previously, though none as severe as this one. “It’s really sad, and they say apparently they were young,” she said.

Another resident, identified only as Steve, stated that the crash wasn’t surprising given the volume of traffic in the area. “It was only a matter of time until something like this happened,” he said. “The traffic in this area all the way to Homestead, with this busway is a complete nightmare.” The impact of the crash also knocked down a power pole, leaving some homes without electricity for several hours. Steve mentioned needing power to work from home.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway. Authorities have not yet determined what led to the collision. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office shut down access to drivers and pedestrians for several hours while investigating the scene.

This incident follows a separate crash in Miami on December 16, 2025, where a stolen Ferrari collided with a utility pole in Brickell. According to Miami Police, the Ferrari was stolen along with a Rolls-Royce. The driver, identified as Deshawn Prendergast, attempted to flee from officers, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a light pole, also impacting a police cruiser. That crash knocked out power to more than a dozen customers, according to Florida Power & Light.
