El Clasico Explosion: Ancelotti Left Reeling as Flick’s Barcelona Reignite Rivalry
Real Madrid Suffers 4-0 Loss to Barcelona in Spanish Premier League
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti lamented the squandering of chances by his team and rivals Barcelona in their 4-0 loss to the Spanish Premier League leaders, but he downplayed the significance of the loss.
Robert Lewandowski scored two goals in a matter of minutes early in the second half to set up a huge victory for Barcelona.
“It was an even match until the opponent scored the first goal,” Ancelotti told a press conference. “We played strongly in the first half, but we lacked accuracy. We had chances to take the lead, but the opponent scored two goals, which discouraged us and changed the course of the match.”
Before that, the “Royal Club” dominated the match and wasted many chances, most of which went to Kylian Mbappe, who was not at his best. Lamin Jamal and Rafinha scored for Barcelona.
“We’re suffering, it’s a difficult moment, but I want to thank the fans for their support… We must forget about the last 30 minutes, we must not give up, we must learn from this defeat,” Ancelotti said sadly. It’s still the season.
Ancelotti said he believed Real Madrid did not deserve to lose and that the result did not reflect the course of the match, but admitted the team paid the price for the wasted chances.
He added, “The result doesn’t reflect what happened on the pitch. We couldn’t push the score against the opposition. The match was even until the first goal and we had more chances.”
He concluded, “It’s known that Barcelona rely on advanced defense and we almost didn’t capitalize on that. (Mbappe) had chances and sometimes he was offside, but he had to deal with 3 or 4 chances more carefully.”
Hansi Flick: Happy with the Win
On the other hand, Barcelona’s coach and league leader, Hansi Flick, expressed his pride in his players after their first loss to their arch-rivals after a 42-match unbeaten run in the local championship, with Barcelona also earning their first win. Summit match from March 2023.
Flick expressed his delight with the win as Bayern Munich beat Germany 4-1 in the Champions League last Wednesday, which capped an exceptional week for Barcelona against two of Europe’s strongest teams.
Flick is off to a great start at the helm of the Catalan giants with 10 wins from 11 matches in the Spanish league.

“I’m happy to work and live in Barcelona. It’s a great job. Very happy. We played a great match, and I’m very proud,” he said at the press conference.
Flick added, “We pressed well with and without the ball. We had more possession on the ball, so that changed the match.”
He continued, “Defensive effort was essential. We trained a lot on how to defend with an advanced defensive line and how to react to ball pressure. It’s also important not to leave any spaces when you play against Real Madrid because they are great players.”
He concluded, “I think we are performing well. We are sticking to our ideas, and now we want to be agile and move forward.”
Barcelona extended their lead in the Spanish league with 30 points, 6 ahead of Real Madrid and 9 ahead of third-placed Villarreal.
