The Maextro S800, a luxury sedan developed through a partnership between Huawei and JAC, has become the top-selling vehicle in China’s high-end sedan segment for April 2026, surpassing established European luxury marques.
According to data published by ECC Intelligence, the Maextro S800 recorded 1,142 sales in April 2026. This performance places the Chinese-developed sedan ahead of its primary European rivals in the luxury market.
The Mercedes Clase S followed in second place with 736 units sold during the same period. The Porsche Panamera ranked third with 616 units, while the BMW Serie 7 fell to fifth position with 436 units. The Audi A8 recorded 260 sales, leaving it outside the top five for the month.
The Maextro S800 competes in the luxury sedan segment for vehicles priced above 700,000 yuan, which is approximately 87,849 euros. In terms of year-to-date performance, the vehicle has achieved 5,465 total sales in China.
Market Shift in Ultra-Luxury
The success of the S800 represents a symbolic shift in the Chinese automotive industry. While local manufacturers have previously dominated several electric and technology-focused segments, the ultra-luxury market remained a stronghold for European brands for several decades.
Reporting from Híbridos y Eléctricos indicates that Huawei has challenged this barrier by producing a vehicle that integrates significant technological capabilities with a design inspired by Rolls-Royce
.
The current sales trajectory positions the Maextro S800 as the king
of the luxury market in China, disrupting the long-term dominance of the Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi trio in the high-end sedan category.
