Elayna Black, previously known as Cora Jade, claims she experienced body shaming while in WWE’s NXT system. Black discussed the “constant comments” regarding her physical appearance in an interview after her WWE release. She said she was told her appearance would prevent her from becoming a champion.
Black said the criticism began when she was 19 years old and weighed 110 pounds. She said the remarks came from various people, but not Shawn Michaels or Triple H, whom she praised. She recalled being told she “looked like I couldn’t crack an egg,” and therefore would not be a champion.
Despite her participation in WWE’s strength and conditioning program, Black felt it was not tailored to her specific needs. She said the program seemed geared toward college athletes and did not benefit her body. Black said she supplemented the WWE program wiht workouts at another gym.
Black indicated these experiences led to personal struggles with her body image, especially at a young age. She expressed frustration with external judgments made without knowledge of her internal struggles and efforts to improve her physique. The WWE body shaming allegations, she said, created “a lot of issues for me,body wise.”
Despite the negative experiences,Black said she loved her time in WWE and achieved many goals.
