Leaked footage and photographs from a filming location in the English countryside have provided the first glimpse of the upcoming live-action Elden Ring movie. The footage, which surfaced on April 3 and 4, 2026, appears to show a highly accurate recreation of the game’s environment, specifically the ruins of a Church of Marika.

The discovery was made by Twitch streamer Throxtv, who uploaded two videos to TikTok showing a fenced-off site. The clips reveal a large statue of Queen Marika and crucifixion stakes, both of which are iconic landmarks found within the Limgrave area of the original action RPG developed by FromSoftware.

Additional details in the footage include wooden carriages, barrels, and construction equipment. The authenticity of the leak is supported by the presence of the logo for Hedgehog Construction on several set blocks. Hedgehog Construction is a scenery company based in Egham, Surrey, that specializes in sets for film and television.

Reports indicate the filming location is situated near Windsor Great Park, a frequent site for major productions such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Production and Creative Direction

The film is being produced by A24 in collaboration with Bandai Namco, who officially announced the project in May 2025. Alex Garland, known for directing Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War, is writing and directing the adaptation.

Garland is a documented fan of the source material. In June 2025, he informed IGN that he was on his seventh playthrough of the game. He specifically noted that Malenia, Blade of Miquella, was the most difficult boss he encountered, describing his approach to the fight as a process of repeated attempts until the enemy is eventually defeated.

According to a report from the New Yorker in September 2025, Garland pitched the project to FromSoftware and Bandai Namco in Japan. His pitch included an epic 160-page draft and 40 pages of accompanying imagery.

George R. R. Martin, the author who collaborated with FromSoftware on the game’s world-building, has expressed optimism about the project. Martin described A24 as kickass and referred to Garland as a first rate director.

Lore and Setting

The leaked set pieces reference the central mythology of the Lands Between. Queen Marika, the figure depicted in the leaked statue, is the divine ruler of the realm and the vessel for the Elden Ring. She is credited with establishing the Erdtree and the Golden Order before shattering the Elden Ring, an event that triggered the catastrophic war known as The Shattering.

The appearance of the Church of Marika and the pylons used for crucifixion suggests the movie may be recreating the atmospheric, bleak scenery of Limgrave, the game’s opening region.

While the footage has generated excitement among fans for its visual accuracy, it has also prompted discussions regarding how the game’s non-linear storytelling and minimal dialogue will translate to a cinematic format.

Neither A24 nor Bandai Namco has issued a public comment regarding the leaked footage. As of April 5, 2026, no official release date for the movie has been announced.
