A father has‍ been granted a⁤ three-year safety order against his son,⁣ who he described as being “at his mercy” ⁤and causing fear within the family home. the court heard distressing accounts of theft, drug use, and vandalism, painting a grim picture of escalating domestic conflict.

A Father’s ⁢Plea for Safety

In a poignant testimony,⁢ the father recounted a⁢ series of troubling⁤ incidents involving his son. He told Judge Aylmer that his son had stolen his bank card, ⁣leading to the withdrawal of nearly €200.‍ Further ⁣financial strain was added when⁢ the son allegedly stole another €150 on the ‍day of his arrest. The father also detailed instances of his son breaking a door at their home and vandalising his car.

“He doesn’t respect me,” ⁤the father stated, his voice⁢ thick with emotion as he addressed the court. “We are at his mercy. We are afraid of ⁢him, that maybe⁣ someday he ⁣will do bad ⁢things to us. ⁢I don’t want that ‍to happen.” Despite the fear, he admitted that when his son returns home, they ⁢still let‍ him in.”We love him; we give him food,” ⁢he added, highlighting the complex and painful family dynamic.

The‍ father explained that his son’s behaviour⁣ began to deteriorate during the COVID-19 pandemic. He left school before completing his Leaving Certificate exams when remote learning was introduced. Since then, the father claimed, his son ‍”started creating trouble in ‍the family,” began to use drugs, and ⁤”gets⁣ angry.” The situation culminated in the son’s arrest during a recent altercation at⁤ the family home, during which he ‍breached an ⁤existing safety order held by ⁢his mother.

“last night,he was banging the door until 3am,we had no sleep⁢ because ⁣of him,” the ⁢father lamented.”All I want for⁢ him is to be good.”

Son’s Court Appearance and acknowledgment of Trouble

The son, who was⁢ present in court, confirmed he ⁣faces charges for breaching his mother’s⁢ safety order. He was informed that a conviction for ‍this charge could result in a‍ year-long ⁢prison ⁢sentence. When asked about previous‍ incarcerations, he vaguely recalled being in prison but could not remember the specifics of his past offences.

Addressing his own situation, the son told the judge he has been attempting to achieve “financial stability” through ⁤”messing around with social ⁣media and stuff.” He acknowledged that ‍there has been “trouble in the house and outside the house,” a candid ⁣admission of the ⁢ongoing conflict.

Judge’s ruling and Future Implications

Judge Aylmer granted the father the requested three-year safety order, a legal measure designed to ⁣protect him from violence or threats of violence from his son. The judge directly addressed the son, stating, “Clearly,⁢ you have been causing him to be in fear of you. That’s unacceptable.”

While the safety order ⁤prohibits the ⁢son‍ from committing or ⁣threatening violence towards his father, it does not prevent him from being ‍at the family home. The judge clarified that the father,⁣ as an‍ adult, has the right to bar his son from the property himself if he chooses. This‍ ruling underscores the court’s attempt to balance the need for protection with the complexities of family relationships, leaving the father with the discretion to manage his son’s presence in the home.
