Los Angeles 2028 Olympic organizers plan to deploy electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, known as air taxis, to transport visitors and ease the city’s notorious highway traffic during the international sporting event, according to official announcements.
LA28 Plans Electric Air Taxis for 2028 Olympic Traffic
The organizing committee, LA28, announced a partnership with aerospace company Archer Aviation to establish a network of vertipoints at key locations across the metropolitan area, including the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. According to company statements published on social media and cited by Forbes México, the service aims to showcase innovative aircraft while accommodating an expected influx of more than 15 million visitors during the Games.
Inside Archer’s Midnight Aircraft and Flight Routes
The transportation service will utilize Archer’s Midnight aircraft, a pilot-operated electric vehicle equipped with 12 motors and propellers that can carry up to four passengers per trip. According to LA28, the aircraft produces less noise and fewer emissions than traditional helicopters.
Flight paths are designed to connect strategic nodes throughout the region, offering passengers 10-to-20-minute flights between vertipoints. Confirmed locations for the network include Los Angeles International Airport, Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Orange County.
Pricing Models and Emergency Integration
While exact pricing has not yet been finalized, reports indicate that fares are estimated to match the cost of high-end Uber vehicles, with ride requests managed through the ride-hailing application, according to Los Angeles Times reporting cited by Forbes México.
In addition to passenger transport, Archer Aviation is positioned to serve as a strategic partner for emergency and security operations throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Adam Goldstein, CEO of Archer, stated that the initiative is intended to leave a lasting legacy on transportation infrastructure in the United States.
