Kia is entering the Golf class: While the K4 takes on the role of a compact combustion engine vehicle, its brother EV4 will take over the electric market. It comes in two versions, once as a limousine and in the more popular hatchback version produced in Slovakia. It sits flat on the road, with clearly defined rear, narrow headlights and angular front.

At 4.43 meters in length, the EV4 belongs to the classic compact segment (its brother K4 is only one centimeter longer) – but offers noticeably more space than many competitors thanks to a wheelbase of 2.82 meters. The feeling of space in the front is airy, and in the rear the raised floor structure ensures restricted foot space but decent knee room. On vrey long journeys, passengers with long legs may find it a little uncomfortable due to the high-set knees. At least there is seat heating in the back. one small thing is annoying: the continuous footwell mat in the rear, which likes to spread crumbs in the interior when removed.

There is no frunk (short for front trunk, front luggage compartment) under the hood, but instead a double loading floor in the trunk, which holds between 435 and 1415 liters depending on the configuration. Typical for the class, the seats fold down in a 40:60 ratio, but there is no remote release from the loading area.
Easy to find your way around in the Kia
The cockpit is clearly structured – and does not overwhelm with unneeded digital features. Two 12.3-inch displays, plus a small climate control panel.
The steering is light and suits the character – in sport mode it becomes more direct, without being sporty-edgy.Especially impressive: the low noise level, even at high speeds on the highway.with 204 hp, the EV4 is perfectly adequately powered, without pressing the occupants into their seats when accelerating. Also good: The “i-Pedal” system, which decelerates the EV4 to a standstill when the accelerator pedal is released, without the need for the brake. In stop-and-go traffic, the compact car floats along relaxed on its own.

Typical modern car: The view to the rear is restricted, especially by the wide D-pillar, parking sensors and a camera are helpful assistants.
Range and Efficiency
The tested version with an 81.4 kWh battery promises up to 625 kilometers of WLTP range – with 17-inch wheels and early summer temperatures. At 5 degrees Celsius and a speed of 130 km/h on the highway, around 360 kilometers were still possible. A good value in winter operation, but of course a clear difference to the measured values. Highway consumption was around 22 to 23 kWh/100 km, in the city a good 17-18 kWh/100 km at 2 degrees Celsius. Kia states a consumption of 14.4 kWh – this is probably possible with corresponding outside temperatures.
Charging is done with up to 128 kW – from 10 to
