Fire on Electric Train at Giheung Station: All Passengers Safe
A fire broke out on an electric train at Giheung Station in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, on the morning of November 18. The incident occurred at 7:32 a.m. as the train was stopped on the downbound track.
Emergency services quickly responded to the fire, deploying 80 firefighters and 34 vehicles. They extinguished the fire within 23 minutes, by approximately 7:55 a.m. At the time of the fire, around 600 passengers were on board the train. All passengers were evacuated safely, and there were no reported injuries.
After the fire, downbound trains continued to run without stopping at Giheung Station. Train operations resumed normally in both directions by 8:55 a.m. Korail officials believe the fire originated from an electrical supply device located on the train’s roof.
Yongin City issued a disaster text message regarding the incident, confirming ongoing operations. Korail plans to return the train to the base and investigate the cause of the fire.
