Sunrun Seeks Electrical Foreperson to Lead Solar Installation Teams
Sunrun Inc., the nation’s leading provider of home solar, battery storage, and energy services, is actively recruiting an Electrical Foreperson to provide leadership and technical expertise for its solar installation crews. The position, a working field role, will be responsible for the safety, quality, customer service, and productivity of each assigned solar installation project.
Founded in 2007, Sunrun has become a dominant force in the renewable energy sector, pioneering home solar service plans designed to make clean energy accessible to a wider audience. The company’s vertically integrated model, controlling every aspect of the energy lifecycle from sale through installation, offers significant opportunities for employee growth, according to the company.
The Electrical Foreperson will lead a team of 3 to 6 members, overseeing the successful completion of residential and small commercial solar projects. Responsibilities include organizing, leading, and training crew members, ensuring meticulous attention to detail with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and efficient productivity.
Effective management of the construction workflow is crucial, as is ensuring the team has adequate materials and equipment to complete projects safely and efficiently. The role also requires diligent project documentation and adherence to photo requirements. A deep understanding of OSHA standards related to photovoltaic installations and a commitment to enforcing safety practices are paramount.
Regular monitoring of installer progress – checking in hourly throughout the installation process – is expected, alongside adherence to established Construction Job Flow Procedures. The Electrical Foreperson will be expected to foster a positive working dynamic within the installation crew and with other branch colleagues, resolving worker problems and recommending solutions as needed.
Customer interaction is also a key component of the role, requiring consistent and appropriate communication throughout the construction phase. Additional responsibilities include weekly vehicle inspections, obtaining customer payments, ensuring accurate time sheet submissions, providing constructability feedback to management, and performing service calls when necessary.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Journeyman License/Electrician Certification, or its equivalent as required by local and state regulations. A thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable codes and standards is essential, with candidates expected to carry and maintain an up-to-date NEC code book.
The ideal candidate will be capable of performing all installation duties of both the Installer and Lead Installer positions. CPR and First Aid certifications are required and will be reimbursed by the company. Physical capability to perform the work duties is also essential, as is a professional appearance and the ability to interact effectively with customers.
Sunrun emphasizes the importance of a strong work ethic, a high level of craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, are required, along with strong mechanical and construction skills. Excellent verbal communication and documentation skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and strong interpersonal skills are also vital.
Experience with electrical work involving wiring up to 600 VDC and 480 VAC is necessary, as is a valid Driver’s License. The position requires up to 5% travel.
The role demands a significant degree of physical exertion, including the ability to transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Work often takes place on rooftops with varying angles and surfaces, requiring frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and maintaining balance. The ability to work in confined spaces, such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces, is also necessary.
Candidates must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions, including excessive noise, extreme heat and cold, wet environments, and humidity. Frequent use of hand functions requiring fine motor skills, such as fine manipulation, grasping, and pinching, is required. The ability to work safely with ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment, as well as heavy protective equipment like arc flash suits, gloves, and face shields, is essential.
The position also requires the ability to work and maintain balance on roofs and other elevated areas, work in both sunlight and low-light conditions, walk on various roofing materials without causing damage, distinguish colors, hear verbal commands and warnings, and work safely with chemicals using appropriate protection.
The starting salary for the position ranges from $46.61 to $62.15, depending on location within the United States. Sunrun states that compensation decisions will not be based on a candidate’s salary history.
