### Homemade Electrolyte Replacements
Anna Grifols, speaking to BBC Mundo, suggests a homemade vegetable broth as an excellent option for rehydration with salt, but without carbohydrates. This is particularly useful for prolonged efforts or nighttime competitions. For a simple,all-in-one solution of water, salts, and carbohydrates, the recipe is straightforward: combine 950 ml of water with 2 grams of salt (approximately two 1-gram salt overflows) and 50-70 grams of sugar in a 1-liter bottle.
Table sugar (sucrose) – a combination of glucose and fructose – is effective during exercise, according to Grifols.
You can enhance the flavor with lemon juice, lime, orange,or pineapple. Grifols notes that 2 grams of salt per liter provides approximately 800 mg of sodium, sufficient for around two hours of activity under normal conditions. Increase fluid intake with more sips of water in hotter or more humid environments.
