Eli Iserbyt Retires from Professional Cycling Due to Medical Condition
Belgian cyclist Eli Iserbyt announced his immediate retirement from professional cycling on Thursday, citing a medical condition. He revealed the news in an emotional video message posted to his Instagram account, stating that doctors have advised him to stop riding due to reduced blood flow in his femoral artery.
“The past few weeks, I have received the news from multiple doctors that it’s no longer medically advisable for me to ride my bike recreationally and competitively,” Iserbyt said in the video.
Iserbyt also stated, “I’ve always shared the beautiful moments with you, but now I also wanted to share this news with you: that, sadly, it is indeed no longer possible for me to continue my career.”
The medical issue stems from a problem with blood flow in his femoral artery, as reported by Cyclingnews. He previously ended his cyclocross season early to undergo surgery to address the issue.
