Updated June 22, 2024
Worldwide’s live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon
remained the top draw at the box office, pulling in an estimated $37
million in its second weekend. The film has earned $358.2 million
worldwide, with $160.5 million domestically and $197.7 million overseas.
The performance of Elio, Pixar’s latest original film, was
disappointing. It opened in third place with just $21 million, marking a
low point for the studio amid a crowded family film market.
28 Years Later, Danny Boyle’s zombie sequel, also fell short of
expectations, debuting with $30 million domestically and $60 million

planned trilogy.
The opening for Elio is Pixar’s lowest sence Elemental
($29.6 million) in June 2023 and Toy Story ($29.1 million) in
1995.
Despite the lower-than-anticipated opening, Elio has received
positive audience scores and an A CinemaScore, including an A+ from kids.
Disney is hopeful that the film will have a long run throughout the
summer.
28 Years Later earned a B CinemaScore, which is considered a
good grade for a horror film.
Lilo & Stitch remained a strong performer in its fifth weekend,
perhaps earning $9 million to $10 million domestically.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning took fifth place with
$6.6 million, bringing its domestic total to $179.4 million and its
worldwide gross to $540.9 million.

million for a domestic total of $23.9 million.
what’s next
