Elon football opened the season with a 42-7 victory against Glenville State on August 27, 2026, at Rhodes Stadium. The dominant performance was led by three touchdowns from debut quarterback Brady Stober, according to Elon University Athletics.

Stober Shines in Phoenix Debut

The Phoenix offense completely overwhelmed the visiting Pioneers. Elon outgained Glenville State 446 yards to 125, building a 27-9 advantage in first downs while averaging 5.8 yards per offensive play, as reported by Elon Athletics data.

Building a First-Half Lead

Following an opening three-and-out defensive stand, Elon marched 58 yards on 10 plays to break the scoreless tie. The drive was capped by a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Brady Stober.

Jimmyll Williams extended the lead to 14-0 with 10:25 remaining in the second quarter on a 10-yard rushing score. The score arrived after a 21-yard completion from Stober to Jamarien Dalton.

Elon stretched its advantage further before halftime. An 11-play, 70-yard drive ended with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Stober to Dalton, making it 21-0 at the half while the Phoenix defense kept Glenville State scoreless.

Second-Half Response

Glenville State capitalized on a short field at the start of the second half, going 30 yards in seven plays. Quarterback JD Sherrod connected with Kyree Bunny for a 2-yard touchdown pass with 9:00 left in the third quarter.

Elon responded immediately. Stober hit Ben Kirsch for a 43-yard gain, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by Williams that restored a three-score cushion at 28-7.

Closing Out the Opener

The Phoenix defense forced another punt on the ensuing possession. That allowed the offense to mount its fifth touchdown drive, which featured a 35-yard completion from Stober to Kenaz McMillian and a 10-yard scoring pass to Kirsch with 1:03 left in the third quarter.

TJ Crews IV capped the scoring late in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jaedon Alford. The play polished off an 85-yard drive to establish the final 42-7 margin, backed by a defense that pitched a first-half shutout and forced Glenville State to punt on its first seven drives of the contest.

Elon travels next to face Davidson on September 5, 2026, at 6:00 PM ET. The game is scheduled for broadcast on ESPN+.
