It is after the publication of a video by the account @libsoftiktok, followed by nearly 4.5 million subscribers, that Elon Musk launched his first call to boycott of the subscription streaming platform. The sequence is taken from the series Dead End: the paranormal park.
Created by Hamish Steele, the series follows two teenagers and a dog who unite their strengths to defeat demons that haunt an amusement park.If they succeed, they will be able to save the world from a possible supernatural cataclysm. It premiered in 2022 with limited initial attention and was later canceled after one season.
A priori, the animated creation wasn’t intended to be at the epicenter of a boycott campaign. It is indeed the evocation of the transidentity of a character which is problematic to elon Musk and the many accounts that have shared content from Libs of TikTok.
The Controversial Scene
The scene shows a character, Barney, explaining that he appreciates the world in which he is, because his transidentity is unknown to others. “I’m trans, Norma. Being here is like being in another world.I have never been so happy”. He adds that it is meaningful for him to finally be able to “live his life without apologizing”.
