Netanyahu Accuses Hamas of Negotiating in Bad Faith
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on September 5 that an agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages was “not close” as the two sides appeared to be further divided on key issues in the talks, including Israel’s military presence in Gaza.
Netanyahu accused Hamas of not negotiating in good faith, claiming they were trying to consolidate control over Gaza by eliminating Israel through negotiations, according to The Hill.
“Hamas wants to restore its power. But we will do everything possible to push them to reach an agreement,” Netanyahu said.
Pressure Mounts on Netanyahu to Reach an Agreement
Netanyahu is under enormous pressure in his country to reach an agreement, with tens of thousands of protesters demonstrating after the death of six hostages in Gaza. Israel’s prime minister is accused of continuing the war for his own political survival.
