Elvis Evolution: AI Immersive Experience London
AI Elvis Takes the Stage: A Glimpse into the Future of Live Entertainment
The King is back, sort of. Layered Reality, a company specializing in immersive entertainment, is set to launch “Elvis Evolution,” a groundbreaking show that brings a digital recreation of Elvis Presley to life. This ambitious project aims to redefine live performances by blending cutting-edge AI technology with the enduring legacy of one of musicS most iconic figures.
The Making of an AI icon
Creating a convincing digital Elvis was no small feat. Layered Reality partnered with The mill, a renowned visual effects agency with a history of bringing historical figures back to the screen, including their Oscar-winning work on Oliver Reed in Gladiator. The Mill, formerly a subsidiary of the post-production giant Technicolor Group, faced its own challenges when Technicolor went bust in February after years of financial struggles. This unexpected turn of events caused notable delays for “Elvis Evolution.”
Despite the setback, Layered Reality managed to secure the necessary talent. They scrambled to hire artists from The Mill on a contract basis to complete the final stages of the AI Elvis project. The start date for the show was pushed back twice from its original March target, a testament to the complexities and unforeseen hurdles in pioneering such advanced technology.
A Post-Pandemic Events Boom
“Elvis Evolution” is poised to welcome guests into what Layered Reality’s CEO, Alex McGuinness, describes as a “live entertainment revolution.” McGuinness views the competition not as other tech or AI companies, but as any other leisure activity a person might choose for an evening, from attending a musical to playing mini-golf or dining out.
Given this perspective, McGuinness believes the standard ticket price of £75 (approximately $102) is justified. “We’re in the memory business,” he stated, emphasizing that too much money is frequently enough spent on forgettable experiences. The company is banking on a growing demand for unique and memorable events, a trend that has been amplified in the post-pandemic era.
the concept of the “experience economy” has been around since 1998, but the COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerated its appeal. This has led to the increased popularity of immersive entertainment venues like Cosm in Los Angeles and the Sphere in Las Vegas.
With this favorable backdrop, “Elvis Evolution” hopes to herald a modern-day comeback for the King. The show aims to capture the raw energy and charisma that defined Elvis’s legendary 1968 comeback special, where he famously declared, “I sang to turtles and palm trees for years. This is a lot better, don’t you think?” The AI-powered performance promises to offer a similarly captivating and emotionally resonant experience for a new generation of fans.**
