“Rietland” premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival and tells the story of a reed cutter who discovers a murdered girl and attempts to uncover the truth behind the crime.
Horses Play a Key Role in ‘Rietland’
Four horses from Media Horses International, a stable in Emmeloord, Netherlands, featured prominently in the film, including a complex scene involving a pregnant mare.omroep Flevoland reports that three of the horses were used to portray a single mare - one for pregnancy, one as a companion, and one trained to convincingly portray the animal lying lifeless in a field. The stallion used in the breeding scene also originated from the Emmeloord stable.
The scene depicts the tragic death of the mare, a pivotal moment in the film’s narrative.
